Correction Officer

Requirements, Benefits
Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office correctional officer recruits take part in a seven-week Basic Recruit Training Academy. For those who successfully complete the training academy, benefits include a starting salary over $48,000.00, paid vacation, 11 paid holidays, medical and dental benefits and a retirement plan. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Possess a high school degree or equivalent
  • Pass a background check, physical exam and a battery of tests
  • Have no criminal history

Academy Outline
At the academy, trainees are instructed in such subjects as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, communicable diseases, communication skills, computer skills, cultural diversity, defensive tactics, direct supervision, firearms safety & handling, fire safety, first aid, gangs, hostage situations, inmate discipline, inmate rights, report writing, searches and contraband, security procedures, sexual harassment, staff/inmate relations, substance abuse, suicide awareness and prevention, use of force, court testimony, first responder certification, history of jails and the Office of Sheriff, physical fitness, stress management, supervision of special needs inmates, transportation and use of restraints.

 

MED-PASSER

We are seeking a MAP certified Medication Passer for Monday through Friday 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM and Monday morning 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM.   This 29 hr/wk position carries a salary of $15.00 per hour.  State benefit package including pension, various insurance options and deferred compensation plan available based on hours worked.

Essential criteria:

  • Current MAP certification required.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED
  • Acute care experience helpful
  • Ability to work in cooperative manner with other staff
  • Regular and punctual attendance

I.T. TECHNICIAN

We are seeking a full-time IT Technician. Duties include day to day end user equipment support as well as developing and testing new systems and services.  Qualified candidate will maintain both software and hardware from deployment to end of life cycles while adhering to department policy and standards.   Position will work with various departments and staff within the Sheriff’s Office and may also occasionally work around the inmate population in secure areas.  Knowledge of server and workstation platforms such as Windows Server 2008, Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 and 10, Active Directory, MS Exchange 2013 and SQL server, knowledge of Windows command line tools Power Shell, Scripting, Task Automation, knowledge of routing and switching.    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or 3-5 years experience with Windows System Administration (understanding domains, trusts and policies (including Exchange).
